Tens of thousands of disposable thermometers, absorbent pads and shoe covers are used every year in the Saint Jérôme Hospital emergency department. CISSS des Laurentides reduced the waste generated in its emergency departments by eliminating the use of these single-use items and replacing them with multi-use alternatives.
To support more sustainable practice, researchers and professionals have developed practical tools to measure and monitor environmental impacts within dentistry. Life cycle assessment methodologies and hybrid carbon accounting approaches now allow practices to estimate emissions linked to travel, procurement, waste, water and energy use
This playbook is intended for all kidney health professionals and advocates. Patients, technicians, nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, administrators, nephrologists and industry partners all have important roles to play in providing quality kidney care while mitigating the impact of climate change and fostering responsible resource use. The playbook intends to: 1.Inform of the reciprocal relationship between climate change and kidney health. 2.Provide knowledge and tools to guide implementation and practice of environmentally sustainable kidney care (ESKC). 3.Inspire action using examples from Canadian settings and practitioners of ESKC.
The CSN Sustainable Nephrology Committee (SNAP) created a pre-recorded lecture focusing on environmentally sustainable kidney care and climate change. The goal of this lecture is to increase awareness amongst nephrology practitioners of the effects of climate change on kidney care, resiliency and adaptation measures, and how we can become involved from an education as well as quality improvement standpoint. The SNAP committee is comprised of a country-wide group of providers dedicated to aligning kidney care with planetary health principles, thereby advancing patient care within a framework of environmental sustainability.
The purpose of this research project was to explore existing anesthetic gas emissions reduction initiatives, to understand contributions of anesthetic gas emissions across four health organizations in British Columbia, and to prioritize the action needed to reduce their impact.
These Guidelines are intended to apply to all anesthesiologists in Canada. The independent practice of anesthesia is a specialized field of medicine, and as such, it should be practiced by physicians with appropriate training in anesthesia.
