Le rôle des services de santé publique et des professionnels de la santé dans la promotion de la santé et du bien-être est établi de longue date, notamment depuis la signature de la Charte d’Ottawa pour la promotion de la santé en 1986.
Outre la promotion de la santé, les systèmes de santé publique sont bien placés pour aider les collectivités à s’adapter aux changements climatiques, à reconnaître les répercussions inéquitablement réparties de ces changements et à promouvoir des stratégies qui présentent des avantages tant pour la santé que pour l’environnement.
Santé Canada participe également activement aux travaux sur l’adaptation et la résilience des systèmes de santé face aux changements climatiques et copréside le groupe de travail « Systèmes de santé résilients face aux changements climatiques » de l’ATACH.
