This self-paced, 90-minute online course is available free of change on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada’s website. It will introduce you to:

  • the relationship between climate change, health, and health systems
  • the concept of sustainable health systems
  • ways you might incorporate climate action and sustainability into your work while supporting system-level change

Learning Objectives 

At the end of this online course, you will be able to: 

  • Explain the impacts of climate change on health and health systems 
  • Describe how health systems contribute to climate change 
  • Recognize the intricate relationship between sustainability and quality of care in health systems 
  • Identify opportunities to integrate sustainability into your work, training, and professional development  
  • Locate implementation resources to support sustainability efforts

The Introduction to Sustainable Health Systems Online Course was originally created by CASACDES; the current version was co-developed with the Royal College and the Scientific Planning Committee to achieve scientific integrity, objectivity, and balance.

CPD Information

This activity is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Royal College Learning and Practice Improvement Unit. You may claim a maximum of 1.5 hours (credits are automatically calculated).

College of Family Physicians of Canada members may claim certified credits through the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada Maintenance of Certification program: accredited Section 1 and Section 3 credits are eligible for certified credits, up to a maximum of 50 credits per five-year cycle. Any additional credits are eligible as non-certified credits.
